Vienna, Rio de Janeiro, Venice: the Brazilian Group “Música Viva” and Luigi Nono

Charlotte Ginot-Slacik, Michelle Agnès Magalhães
This article researches the role that political utopias played in post-war music, especially for Luigi Nono. The two authors, Charlotte Ginot-Slacik and Michelle Agnes Magalhães, open up a neglected field: the importance of one of the emerging spaces for new music, Brazil, by examining the music ensemble and activist group “Música Viva”. They focus on the history of the Brazilian composer and group member Eunice Katunda and her encounters with the European music scene in Vienna and Venice.
